Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy is a structured, integrative approach that combines elements of cognitive behavioural therapy, attachment theory, and emotion-focused therapy. It is designed to help individuals understand and change long-standing patterns that may be deeply rooted in early life experiences.

This therapy is especially effective for individuals who struggle with recurring emotional difficulties or relationship patterns that don’t seem to shift, despite previous therapy or self-awareness.

Schema Therapy is helpful for:
• Personality disorders
• Chronic depression and anxiety
• Eating disorders and body image concerns
• Complex trauma and emotional neglect
• Emotional dysregulation and self-criticism
• Repeated relationship difficulties
• Long-standing feelings of shame

Schemas are deeply held beliefs about ourselves and the world which are often formed early in life. While these beliefs once helped us cope, they can later show up as maladaptive behaviours, emotional overreactions, or self-defeating patterns.

Through a blend of cognitive strategies, emotional work, and experiential techniques, Schema Therapy helps:
• Identify and understand their core schemas
• Heal unmet emotional needs
• Learn new, more adaptive coping strategies
• Build healthier relationships with themselves and others

At Evolving Minds Counselling, Schema Therapy is delivered in a compassionate, structured, and supportive environment. Our clinicians work with you to identify patterns that no longer serve you and to support lasting emotional and relational change.
